Akron's Biomedical Corridor
Akron's quality healthcare assets making changes, improving quality of life
The Biomedical Corridor is a term used to describe an Akron city planning initiative that brings the city’s premier medical facilities together under one planning district in hopes that it will create further positive direction for the district and the city as a whole. Currently the district combines the areas surrounding Akron General Medical Center, Akron City Hospital and Akron Children’s Hospital. The corridor’s proximity to one of the nation’s premier medical facilities, The Cleveland Clinic, and its many recent additions including Akron Polymer Systems, positions it as one of the fastest growing, and highest quality, healthcare districts in the area. The biomedical corridor is a growning and developing medical district and new technologies are constantly being developed there. Akron's heritage of mechanical and materials technology has begun to merge with biological and medical sciences to create a movement towards bio-technical innovation. The corridor is just one of the many ways that Akron is constantly moving forward, creating and innovating.
