Akron, a town with rich culture and history.

The word Akron comes from the Greek root of the word Acropolis, a term used to descibed the summit, or highest point on a mountain. The city was given this name because of its location, more than a thousand feet above sea level, but it became a kind of prophecy, a widespread idea that Akron was at the top of the world, at the peak of civilization, a true "city on a hill.”
Throughout it's history Akron has followed this philosophy, becoming a leader of industry and a well known "boom town" in it's early years, leading the charge into industrial production and heavy manufacturing. As industrial manufacturing’s prominence declined, Akron shifted its focus to retain its position as a technology and business leader. They began to focus on invention, research and education. The town grew, built around its knowledge centers such as the University of Akron, and became a leader in polymer, technology, and medical research.
Throughout the years, changes in politics, economy and social trends have changed and shaped Akron, but it has never strayed from philosophy of forward thinking. Akron, a city on a high point with a far-reaching view, has always been able to look forward and envision, and prepare for, what is coming ahead.
